What now?

Hello, students!

We are about to wrap up our time trip. Now, let's discuss, infer, and speculate a little bit about the future. First, watch  this small passage from a movie called Minority Report

Did you like it? So, let's discuss:

  • How do you think life is going to be in the future? (consider the topic you started with)
  • What kinds of risks do we take depending on the decisions we take?
  • Do you think future will be better? Why or why not?

What about the present?

Hello, students!

In the previous post, we used the images of an old American Middwest town, preserved as an outdoor museum to talk a little bit about how things used to be in the past. Now, let's see some images of how things are in the PRESENT, so we can contrast, compare, and write a little more about it.

These are recent photos of Kansas City, which territory belongs to two different US states: Kansas and Missouri. Remember the topicas from our old prairie post and try to write a paragraph about how things are nowadays.

 Hello, students!

Look at these pictures. They are from an outdoor museum called Old Prairie Town, in Topeka, Kansas. Some buildings and objects are from the 19th century (1850 on), and others are from the beginning of the 20th century.

Now, try to make sentences about how things used to be IN THE PAST. Try to male sentences in the Past Simple, an with the expression USED TO. You may refer to the following topics:

Education - Medicine - Houses - Food/Cooking - Clothes - Transportation - Communication
Try to make at least one or two sentences for each topic.

And here is a video you can watch, so you can have an idea of what this museum is about:

A little bit of Old Prairie

Last Saturday I was to Old Prairie Town, in Topeka, KS. It is an interesting spot for a historical tour, specially if you're interested on settlers daily routine. You have sort of a small town built there, with materials aged back to 1800s.

There was a railroad and there are some stores, a school, a mansion, and ... sort of a hut at the museum. There are lots of old instruments doctors and dentists used to work with at the drugstore, which nowadays is actually an ice cream store. Besides, there is an old general store where you can buy souvenirs. It's worth seeing!
